![]() ![]() Coelophysis is small compared to many other carnivorous dinosaurs, with a thin body, long neck and slender head, perfect for probing burrows and other hard to reach places and was build more for speed rather than for power. Coelophysis would probably have occupied the middle of the food chain and preyed on smaller animals or scavenged after larger predators, but may have tackled larger prey when in numbers, but overall would have avoided larger carnivores such as phytosaurs and rauisuchids. Coelophysis would have encountered Placerias, Desmatosuchus and the apex predator of the time, Postosuchus. During the Triassic, there were still many mammalian reptiles that had survived the Permian mass extinction, as well as other reptilian groups such as archosaurs and temnospondyl amphibians. It was one of the earliest dinosaurs and one of the most successful during the Triassic. Coelophysis is a carnivorous dinosaur from Late Triassic, North America.
